Research shows that the meetings and events industry is female dominated. As such, most of those working in the industry are going to be directly affected by menopause at some point in their career.
Despite this, there has been a deafening silence around the issue.
New First Look Research conducted by Northstar Meetings Group shows that menopausal women in the events industry feel they lack the support necessary to do their jobs. Almost two thirds (63 per cent) say that menopause has stopped them from doing their job to the best of their ability while 70 per cent say menopause has had a negative impact on their mental health.
More than 460 people responded to the survey.
Its findings suggest that unless workplaces begin to cultivate supportive cultures for those experiencing menopause, businesses will be threatened by poor staff retention and an inability to attract talent.
