The International Society of Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners (ISOPP) exists to advance oncology pharmacy care for patients around the world by delivering professional development and collaborative advocacy initiatives. Through the Society’s Symposia, journal (JOPP), newsletters and website, it connects members with leading edge oncology knowledge, best practices and essential professional networks.
BOPA
BOPA was founded in 1996 and grew out of the United Kingdom Clinical Pharmacy Association (UKCPA). The purpose of BOPA, a registered charity, is to promote excellence in the pharmaceutical care of patients with cancer through education, communication, research and innovation by an alliance of hospital, community and academic pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, those in the pharmaceutical industry and other healthcare professionals. BOPA’s principal objective is to promote excellence in the pharmaceutical care of patients with cancer, thereby improving their quality of life.
The bidding process
The national organisation and local host, BOPA, prepared a proposal presented to ISOPP expressing their interest in hosting ISOPP 2019 in London, Edinburgh or Manchester in conjunction with BOPA’s annual conference. The proposal included a shortlist of potential venues based on the requirements of the Symposium and ISOPP’s and BOPA’s experience and feedback. The Novotel London West was selected due to accessibility, cost and overall fit.
Organisation of the Symposium
ISOPP's Society and Symposium Management Office, Sea to Sky Meeting and Association Management (Sea to Sky), worked closely with ISOPP and BOPA to develop a collaborative and engaging joint meeting. Sea to Sky managed all aspects of the Symposium planning including venue negotiation, program development, sponsorship and exhibitor management, and logistical planning in conjunction with the Symposium Planning Task Force, Symposium Program Task Force and Rob Duncombe, the ISOPP 2019 Symposium Chair.
