Event tech provider Cvent has acquired mobile event app firm DoubleDutch.

The meetings, events, and hospitality technology firm has announced that it has acquired the San Francisco-based mobile event app provider for an undisclosed sum.

Cvent believes that the acquisition of DoubleDutch highlights its investment in the mobile technology space and will complement and grow the company’s signature mobile event app and onsite solution capabilities.

“DoubleDutch is an innovator in the mobile event app space and both Cvent and DoubleDutch have a shared mission to unlock the business value of human connection,” said Lawrence Coburn, CEO and founder of DoubleDutch. “We are incredibly proud to join the market-leading team at Cvent. With their global reach and scale, we can fuel our passion to change the way people connect, learn, and grow at live events.”

Mobile event apps are increasingly an integral part of the attendee experience, facilitating and capturing engagement, which can lead to higher event return on investment (ROI) and attendee satisfaction. By acquiring DoubleDutch, Cvent is aiming to expand its commitment to the onsite experience.

“We are extremely excited to add DoubleDutch to the Cvent family,” said Reggie Aggarwal, CEO and founder of Cvent. “By adding DoubleDutch’s industry expertise to Cvent, we accelerate our investment in mobile event technology. We are also proud to welcome the talented DoubleDutch team to our more than 4,000 Cventers worldwide. Together, we will continue to drive innovation in how attendees engage at events.”

In May, Cvent announced plans to “drastically expand” its European footprint by hiring nearly 1,000 employees this year.

The announcement was made at IMEX Frankfurt, where Aggarwal told M&IT that the leveraging of technology in the meetings industry is behind the expansion.

“We’re excited about growing globally and hiring people because our customer base is growing pretty dramatically and that’s what’s driving it,” said Aggarwal.
