Madrid venue hoping to see 3m visitors this year

IFEMA, the convention and exhibition complex in Madrid, Spain is hoping this year to achieve three million visitors, one million net square metres of activity and 30,000 exhibitors. Already its estimated revenue for the year is 112.5 million, from more than 100 trade shows and congresses and over 500 events in total.

In the final third of the year, the institution has 47 major congresses and trade shows lined up. Among the largest is the World Dental Congress, sponsored by the World Dental Federation, one of the oldest health-related events in the world. More than 12,000 attendees from over 90 countries will find around 350 exhibitors in place.

Participants will include experts on dentistry, periodontics, endodontics and oral surgery. Madrid has been the site of three previous World Dental Congresses, including one of the first annual sessions in 1903.

Other health-related events include the Medical Oncology Congress organised by the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), in collaboration with the European Association for Cancer Research (EACR), which after its first event in Madrid in 2014, returns to IFEMA in September, with the participation of 20,000 delegates from all over the world.

This will be followed by EAO, the congress of the European Association for Osseointegration, which is holding its 24th Scientific Meeting from 5 to 7 October; SEH-LELHA, the congress of the Sociedad Española de Hipertensión - Liga Española Contra Hipertensión, which has chosen IFEMA for its 22nd edition; and the 37th congress of SEMI, the Sociedad Española de Medicina Interna. Three events which will bring a total of 8,000 people.

As for trade shows, they include the MOMAD METROPOLIS International Fashion Trade Show, the MERCEDES BENZ FASHION WEEK MADRID, and the MOMAD SHOES International Footwear and Accessories Trade Show. Other trade shows on the IFEMA calendar include INTERGIFT International Gift and Decoration Fair, the FRUIT ATTRACTION Fruit and Vegetables Trade Show and the Trade Show for the Meat Industry, MEAT ATTRACTION.
