Event organisers can now access 26 Marriott convention hotels & resorts via one dedicated contact person through the hotel group’s European Convention Network (ECN). The ECN aims to provide a streamlined, cost-effective and comprehensive service for meeting planners organising regular meetings and events in Europe.

Each of the 26 venues is in a key gateway city in Europe. The network provides both consistency and variety across an impressive portfolio, with each hotel experienced in hosting large-scale meetings and events. All hotels selected have an average of 500 rooms and at least 2,500 sqm of meetings space (2,000 sqm for resorts).

“The European Convention Network brings together the scale of Marriott Europe’s meetings and events capabilities with a simplified and personal approach which puts the meeting and events planner at the heart of the process,” says Pauline Bronkhorst, Head of the European Convention Network. “Our customers have told us they want to save time when planning large annual or bi-annual events in different cities by having one account manager that works with them regularly and understands their business.

“Instead of contacting individual hotels and explaining working practices, organisers want one person who values their business, knows who they are and how they source and contract their event. “

One of the ways the ECN helps planners save time and money is by offering live virtual site inspections. Through London-based technology startup Go Instore, one-way video is paired with two-way audio, allowing the event organiser to explore the venue and engage with the person best suited to understand their event requirements as if they were on site.

The technology’s ability to turn a website visit into a real-time, visually-immersive and engaging experience has many benefits for both events professionals and Marriott. Both parties save significant time and improve efficiency by removing travel and distance from the venue and event assessment process.

For event professionals, removing the need to travel at the research stage means a large potential cost saving. It also allows Marriott the opportunity to build rapport and confidence in their brand early on.

So far the live virtual site inspections have been popular with event organisers, who have said: “I really appreciated the opportunity to see the venue in real time and have my questions answered”

“Very effective and gave me a good impression of the hotel”

“Love this, it was awesome, very informative and helpful”

“I saved time and expenses by using the virtual tour instead of travelling to the hotel”

“We have been able to attribute a significant amount of event revenue from across the globe as a result of using Go Instore’s live video streaming technology,” says Bronkhorst. “Customers and associates love this new way of interacting, and it has helped Marriott’s European Convention Network to deliver an increase in leads and bookings from around the world, since it was launched.”
