Welcoming international delegates back to New Zealand

With three new cutting-edge convention centres – Te Pae Christchurch now open, Takina Wellington on track to open in 2023, and the New Zealand International Convention Centre in Auckland scheduled to open in 2025 – New Zealand is bouncing back with a conference offering like never before.

Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre

Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre has hosted more than 100 events since its first conference in May. Attracting more than 40,000 guests, these include multi-day conferences, banquets, meetings and seminars, exhibitions and live entertainment.

“Business to date has absolutely exceeded our expectations,” says Convention Centre General Manager Ross Steele. “While some of this can be attributed to the impacts of covid condensing this year’s event schedule, it also speaks to the interest and pent-up desire for Ōtautahi Christchurch as a destination for business events.”

Te Pae Christchurch’s 28,000 sqm of flexible space includes a 1,400-seat tiered auditorium, divisible into two 700-seat venues, a riverside banquet space plus extensive meeting space and expandable exhibition halls.

Tākina Wellington Convention and
Exhibition Centre

Sitting at the heart of New Zealand’s compact, walkable capital, Tākina is well on track for its mid-2023 opening.

Wellington’s premium, purpose-built convention and exhibition centre, Tākina, will host the Festival for The Future in June 2023, its first event after the official opening. Bookings are being confirmed as far out as 2026, including the Congress of the International Association of Sedimentologists.

Sitting across two levels and ideal for plenaries up to 1,600 delegates, GM of Commercial Development for Tākina at Wellington City Council, David Perks, says, “Tākina is quickly becoming a recognised and exciting new landmark in Wellington. Conference organisers are finding that the spaces in Tākina are versatile which, combined with being in the heart of the city, will deliver the conference experience they are seeking for their delegates.”

New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC), Auckland

Construction continues on the NZICC in the centre of Auckland city, due for completion in 2025. Designed by world-class architects, industry event experts and future clients collaboratively, the NZICC will bring world-class convention facilities to Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.

The NZICC will be able to host events for up to 4,000; feature a flexible and divisible theatre (2,850 seated capacity, 1,100 sit-down catered events); multi-purpose halls of 6,700 sqm that can accommodate 400 exhibition booths or more than 3,000 people for a dinner, and up to 33 meeting rooms.
