ADNEC – a “fantastic” venue for international nursing conference

With more than 1,600 participants from across the globe attending the event in Abu Dhabi, the ICN’s regional conference was a huge success

“ADNEC is a fantastic place to have our conference,” says Lindsey Williamson, Director of Communication – The International Council of Nurses. “We have great facilities at the Centre and all the hotels are nearby so it’s easily accessible for everyone. There’s a lot of networking going on and everything is in close proximity.

“We’re happy to be coming back in 2021 for our International Congress at ADNEC.”

As far back as 2015, ADNEC and the Abu Dhabi Convention Bureau began to work with the Emirates Nursing Association (ENA) to prepare its bid to host the ICN’s International Congress in 2021. As part of this process, nursing leaders from the GCC were invited to Abu Dhabi and hosted to meet the ICN leadership and learn more about becoming members. Thanks to the support and commitment shown by the region, city, local host and venue, the ICN not only chose to hold its international congress at ADNEC but to launch its first ever regional congress here as well.

When supporting bids, ADNEC, together with its key partner, works to involve relevant local organisations to add value and partner with international associations conferences. In the case of the ICN, this included introductions to important government organisations responsible for healthcare policy, regulations and management of all public hospitals as well as in-depth research into regional markets and unlocking membership growth opportunities.

The regional gathering of nurses took place in September and focused on ‘Ensuring access to healthcare through leadership, innovation and collaborative practice’.

Says Samia Ouraid, Event Manager at The International Council of Nurses: “We were expecting 1,200 delegates but attracted a total of 1,681.With an increase of 200 more people per day, ADNEC and Capital Hospitality were tremendously reactive to continuous last-minute requests such as an increase in lunch attendees. Thank you again for looking after us so well, it helped make my role easier when I was on-site. I certainly recommend ADNEC for future events.”

ADNEC sits at the heart of the capital of the UAE’s events infrastructure. Ideally located in the Capital Centre, it offers an interconnected event destination with six on-site hotels, including ADNEC-owned Andaz Capital Gate and Aloft Abu Dhabi, providing around 2,000 rooms from three to five-star, and is a 15-minute transfer from Abu Dhabi International Airport.

Facilities in the multi-award winning venue include 133,000 sqm of flexible event space, an International Convention Centre seating 6,000 delegates, 21 meeting rooms, 17 flexible meeting spaces seating 20 to 1,500 delegates, 12 state-of-the-art, fully interconnected column-free exhibition halls plus an Atrium, Concourse and a stunning Waterfront Quayside.

2019 will be an excellent year for ADNEC with major congresses including the FIP World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, the SIOP Asia Congress, the World Congress of Endourology, World Roads Congress and World Energy Congress scheduled to take place. Booked for 2020 are The International Society Pediatric Adolescent Diabetes 46th Annual Conference, and the WONCA World Conference.
