Associations launch ‘Our events are open for business’ campaign

The Global ‘G3’ Alliance between AIPC, ICCA and UFI have launched the ‘Our events are open for business’ campaign to counter the narrative that meeting places are dangerous during the coronavirus outbreak.

The International Association of Convention Centres (AIPC), International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) and the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI) aim to bring the industry together to prevent more postponements and cancellations.

“Exhibitions and events are essential to millions of businesses around the world. They exist to provide platforms for people and industries to meet, to trade, and to collaborate. Small and medium businesses in all industries, in particular, depend on exhibitions. And, like all types of events, they support the economy worldwide“, says Mary Larkin, UFI president.

The campaign highlights three ways to promote the events industry during this period of insecurity:

  • It is important that we foster the public and political debate
  • It is important that we highlight the fact that many events are taking place worldwide and delivering great outcomes for their stakeholders, often adapting their programmes to suit current circumstances
  • It matters a great deal that we discuss how to keep our events going, and how to strike the right balance between keeping people safe from a health threat today AND keeping people safe mid to long term by stabilising and supporting scientific, societal and economic development

“We have one simple message here,” said Kai Hattendorf, UFI CEO. “As an industry, we strive to make it possible for every company to come to the show floor, to seek to meet with industry peers, to drive the exchange about how and to what degree their respective industries are impacted by COVID-19, and to secure the successful future for their business.”

The G3 Alliance is keen for all industry players to get involved in the campaign has released materials including flyers, banners and posters for the industry to use.
