Capita’s NYS brand raises £3,100 for Buses4Homeless charity
Captia’s corporate travel and events brand, NYS, has raised £3,100 for UK-based charity, Buses4Homeless by sleeping rough for a night in July.
“It was a brilliant event, a great opportunity for team building and supporting a fantastic cause that all of the team are passionate about. We are delighted to be a part of the first-ever sleep out for Buses4Homeless and it was great to hear from Dan first hand why the work he is doing is so important,” said director of events at NYS, Caroline Medcalf.
Buses4Homeless aims to be a low-cost, holistic solution to homelessness by refurbishing decommissioned buses into space where rough-sleepers can eat, sleep, learn and focus on their wellbeing.
Dan Atkins co-founder of Buses4Homeless praised the NYS team for their dedication to the initiative. “It’s good to see energy and passion put into Buses4Homeless and raising awareness of everything we do,” said Atkins.
“Well done to the team for sticking it out and I’m overwhelmed by the funds that the team have achieved – this will go towards helping finalise the buses so that the team and myself can provide many vital services that people rely on to feel part of the community again.”
The team at NYS participated in the sponsored sleep out to not only raise money of the charity but to also raise awareness of the thousands of rough sleepers in London.
Jason Cardy, event director at NYS said after meeting Dan Atkins: “His determination and courage to set up this ambitious project really inspired us, it’s a great cause with a long-term goal. More than 3,000 people sleep rough in London alone, which is a shocking amount, and we wanted to support a cause.
“The money will enable Buses4Homeless to contribute towards the fit-out of the Bus 4 Dining with a commercial kitchen on the lower level, teaching rough sleepers how to prepare and cook nutritious meals for themselves and other homeless people within the community.”
