Dubai boosts pipeline of major conference wins ahead of ‘defining year’

Dubai Business Events (DBE), the city’s official convention bureau, won 82 bids for international meetings, conferences and incentive travel groups in the third quarter of 2019.

The events, secured July – September, are set to attract more than 29,200 delegates from around the world, re-affirming Dubai’s status as a premier destination for business events.

The wins include: ACI Financial Markets World Congress, which is scheduled to be held in 2020 and is set to attract 800 visitors and the Asian Congress on Urology, in 2023, which will host 1,200 visitors.

Issam Kazim, CEO of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing, said: “Our success in securing international business events over recent months is testament to the strides we have made as a city to attract and host large scale strategic conferences, meetings and incentive groups, and fully align with the Emirate’s visionary leadership and Dubai’s Tourism Vision 2022-2025.’’

Steen Jakobsen, Assistant VP of Dubai Business Events, said: “This quarter has been a busy and productive period in terms of securing world-class bid wins. Our success in securing these bid wins has demonstrated Dubai’s ability to provide event planners with a wide array of options and possibilities in the lead up to a defining year for Dubai in 2020.”

The largest event to be held in the Arab World, Expo 2020 Dubai, is expected to boost the emirate’s economy by AED 122.6 billion (£26.5bn). A new district in Dubai is being built in preparation for the Expo, which is located half way between Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
