ESAE elects ‘visionary’ Morrissey as new president
Mike Morrissey, CEO of the European Cancer Organisation, was elected president of the European Society of Association Executives (ESAE) at the group’s general assembly.
He replaces Giuseppe Marletta, executive director of the Association of Corporate Counsel, who described his successor as a ‘forward-thinker and visionary’.
Maria Rosa Gibellini (EIF) will continue to serve as vice president, joined by Rafael Plata (EACH), in the context of a new mandate, while Alexander Mohr (EFFA) was elected as the treasurer of ESAE.
Morrissey said: “I’m very honoured to have been elected as the new President of ESAE at the annual General Assembly. Having worked in Associations all of my career, I am passionate about our unique role as Association Executives and I am looking forward to working with the whole ESAE Board, its team as well as all ESAE members and partners.”
In a post on LinkedIn, Marletta described his departure as ‘bittersweet’.
“I am excited for new adventures to come, but also sad to leave this position,” he added. “When I started my presidency, I was very clear: “Dear Board, let’s be ambitious!”. And we were. Despite the pandemic, we met all the objectives that we had in mind. So today I leave with a delightful sense of fulfilment.”
Marletta achieved a lot during his tenure. Amongst other things, membership grew by 150%, the organisation had a complete rebrand, a leadership circle was created, a new event programme was established, and followers on social media increased by 750%.
The new ESAE Board is composed of the following members: Maria Rosa Gibellini (EIF), Nicholas Hodac (UNESDA Soft Drinks Europe), Wouter Lox (AIJN), Giuseppe Marletta (ACC), Chloe Menhinick (ICA), Mohamed Mezghani (UITP), Alexander Mohr (EFFA), Mike Morrissey (European Cancer Organisation), Carlos Olabe (European Investment Casters’ Federation), Rafael Plata (EACH), Dianna Steinbach (ISSA) and Liesbeth Switten (Association of Issuing Bodies).
