Vote of confidence as investors pour $455m into Bangkok centre

Bangkok’s largest convention centre, the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre (QSNCC), will reopen in September 2022 with a capacity for 100,000 visitors a day.

With an investment of 15 billion Thai Baht ($455m), the new QSNCC will reopen with five times the amount of space it previously had with a total event space of 78,500 sqm.

This includes 45,000 sqm across two main exhibition halls, two large conference halls totalling nearly 10,000 sqm, 50 flexible meetings rooms and additional retail space.

TCC Assets, the major investor behind the revamp, refers to the convention centre as the most conveniently located in Bangkok given its close proximity to the Metropolitan Rapid Transit (MRT).

TCC Assets director, Panote Sirivadhanabhakdi said despite the COVID-19 challenges, the team managed to follow its long-term investment plan to complete the QSNCC remodelling successfully.

“This fulfills our vision and aspiration to transform the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center into the leading world-class convention center in Asia,” he added.

“We believe that Thailand’s strategic location will benefit our stakeholders – organizers, exhibitors, customers, visitors, etc. – with a highly competitive ecosystem of the supply chain for endless business opportunities, great accessibilities, a good variety of destinations and hospitality services.

“We are confident that these strengths will enable the QSNCC to capture the interests of leading international MICE and event businesses, promoters as well as operators, and to be known as Thailand’s ultimate inspiring world-class event platform for all”.

The revamped QSNCC has recently opened for bookings and has received responses from buyers and exhibitors as well as from merchandisers and food businesses for the retail space.

Sakchai Pattarapreechakul, president of N.C.C. Management & Development Co, the operator of QSNCC, said the centre has been a leading player in the meetings and events industry in Thailand for three decades.

“The QSNCC has been known for its high-standard event venue with well-rounded capabilities and resources, and its impressive experience in accommodating 20,000 leading events at both national and international levels.

“We believe that the revived QSNCC will serve the needs of all customer segments and support all event types which can possibly be imagined,” he added.
