More than 3,500 engineers will descend on Busan in 2026 after Korea won a bid to host the 23rd International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) World Congress.
The triennial event will take place August 20 – 25.
Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), Busan Tourism Organization (BTO), and the Control Robot Systems Society - Korea’s member of IFAC - supported the bid.
Last year KTO made Professor Cho Dong-il, VP of IFAC, the honorary Korea MICE Ambassador. KTO also supported the bid by conducting site inspections and hosting events such as Korea Night.
Founded in 1957, IFAC now has members in 50 countries focused on automatic control and its representation in the fields of engineering, science and the impact of control technology on society.
Previous congresses were held in France (2017) and South Africa (2014). Next year’s congress is in in Berlin, Germany and the 2023 edition will be held in Yokohama, Japan.
Oh Choong-sub, head of the Convention Team at Korea Tourism Organization, said: “At international conventions, a large number of experts visit Korea from overseas and conduct academic exchanges. This has significant effect not just on related industries in Korea, but on Korean tourism as well. Particularly, the IFAC World Congress in Busan will have significant impact on the local economy and help to raise global awareness about Korea.”
