Association launches relief fund for disaster victims

PCMA, the professional convention management association, has kick-started a US$250,000 fundraising campaign to help disaster victims in Australia and Puerto Rico.

The Chicago-based international members organisation has stumped up US$50,000 to get the ball rolling and is calling on the business events industry to make up the balance.

The money will help those affected by the bushfires in Australia and the earthquakes in Puerto Rico.

PCMA president and CEO Sherrif Karamat (left) said: “Doing good for people and communities in crisis is doing good for all of us. The business events industry has a rich legacy of stepping up and coming together to do good when disasters strike. This is another way of demonstrating how business events can be a catalyst for economic and social transformation.”

Three years ago, the PCMA Foundation created the Industry Relief Fund to galvanise the industry to help members of the industry who were suffering from disasters around the world.

In addition to direct financial support through the Industry Relief Fund, PCMA will collaborate with leaders in the affected communities to provide support through PCMA’s networks.
