VISITFLANDERS launches new conference planning tools for safer meetings

VISITFLANDERS Convention Bureau has announced the inauguration of a new framework of tools to enable the safe restart of its congress, meetings and events industry.

VISITFLANDERS is the official tourist authority for Flanders, the northern region of Belgium. The organisation is working with the Alliance of Belgian Event Federations, the Expertise Centre for Public Impact KdG and the Belgian Government.

VISITFLANDERS and EVENTFLANDERS are offering three tools, free of charge, and in multiple languages, to event organisers around the world.

The tools are:

  • The Covid Event Risk Model (CERM)
  • The Covid Event Protocol
  • The Corona Prevention for Venues Guidebook

The Covid Event Risk Model (CERM) will allow organisers to test conferences and events for potential COVID-19 safety risks. Private and public sector organisers can complete a questionnaire based on 20 parameters to help reduce the spread of coronavirus. The parameters will be adjusted according to Belgium’s phase of recovery, at the time of completing the questionnaire.

The Covid Event Protocol is a guide for organisers to assess whether it is possible to organise a conference or event in accordance with health and safety requirements. The protocol provides information that specifically addresses key requirements to help organise the event as safe as possible, as well as providing guidance to the CERM.

The Corona Prevention for Venues Guidebook provides meeting and conference locations with a practical checklist, information and tips on how to safely organise events and conferences, with the health of participants and employees in mind during pandemics and similar situations. However, this guidebook is currently only available to Dutch.

Belgium’s borders are currently open and the country has dropped its restrictions for those visiting from within the European Union and from the UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.

Currently, arrivals to Belgium from the aforementioned countries do not need to self-quarantine upon arrival.
